Jack White played a surprise set on a London rooftop this night (September 25) to rejoice the grand opening of his new 3rd Person Records retailer. Examine out photos and footage beneath.
The store is the file label’s 3rd physical outlet, with the London room – Third Man’s very first exterior the US – joining current buildings in Nashville, Tennessee and Detroit, Michigan.
Found on 1 Marshall Street in Soho, London (W1F 9BA), the new keep officially opened to the public earlier this afternoon (September 25), with hundreds of people today queuing close to the block to get in.
Prior to his rooftop general performance, White done in the blue basement of the retail outlet in which he rolled through The White Stripes’ ‘Hello Operator’, ‘Why Simply cannot You Be Nicer To Me’ and ‘Icky Thump’ as very well as solo favourites ‘Sixteen Saltines’, ‘What’s Finished Is Done’ and ‘Love Interruption’.
Speaking right before White took to the rooftop, fans Victoria (31) and Hywel (37) explained to NME’s Andrew Trendell how they’d drove four hours from Merthyr Tydfil in Wales to be there for the opening.
“I’m a subscriber to 3rd Man’s vaults so I had a restricted move come through the article,” said Hywel. “We imagined it was way too fantastic to miss out on, genuinely. Victoria continued: “We had been explained to to appear back at 6.15pm and glimpse up at Beak Avenue. Seeking up, we can see some speakers to hopefully one thing will materialize. I’m definitely a Jack White super-admirer. He’s astounding. I was definitely in awe back when we observed him at the Islington Garage. Tonight could be legendary. Fuck yeah, Jack White!”
Requested if they had been supporters of White’s new blue hair, Hywel replied, “I’m not going to lie, I feel it is a faux pas on his portion – but I’m not likely to bring it up if I meet him this evening”, while Victoria admitted that she “loved the blue hair – it is a statement”.
White, who was in city and on hand to oversee proceedings, then took to a neighbouring rooftop – owned by artist Damien Hirst – on Beak Street to provide a efficiency on a balcony above a huge 3rd Person Records banner.
He opened with The White Stripes‘ ‘Dead Leaves On The Filthy Ground’, following which he claimed to the group: “Good evening, London.” White then introduced into ‘Lazarretto’, followed by The Raconteurs track ‘Steady As She Goes’, in advance of which he questioned those people in attendance: “London, allow me request you a favour once again, can you clap together with the snare drum?”

London’s Third Male Data Keep triples up as a two-level retail house, an intimate reside songs location named “The Blue Basement” and Third Guy Records’ European HQ.
In celebration of the store’s opening, Third Male Data have introduced a host of new or previously unreleased records by the likes of Paul Weller, David Ruffin, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Cornershop, Gina Birch of The Raincoats and the ‘lost’ Manchester group The Magic Roundabout.
